Numbers 14:7-10
7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’[a] 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”
10 And all the congregation said to stone them with stones
People won’t always believe Your promise! Although the promise is usually beneficial to all that are connected to you, most of the time they don’t have the prophetic vision or spirit of faith and obedience to believe. Most of the time it feels like we are being stoned by everyone around us. We can’t let the naysayers keep us from what God has shown us. Joshua and Caleb got to see the promise because they had the spirit to obey! All those 20 years old and above would die in the wilderness except for Caleb and Joshua. God was holding all those of fighting age accountable for not being willing to fight for the promise.
Joshua 1:2-3
“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.
The next 5 verses God told Joshua to be strong and courageous 3 times
God continued to tell Joshua to be strong and courageous through all of the chapters.
Help may come from unusual places. God used Rahab the Harlot to hide God’s people spying out the land. God spared her entire family and blessed them. They prophetically gave her instructions and she obeyed and believed by faith that there she would be safe. God will also bless those who help you if they heed your prophetic instructions!
Not only was she blessed but dwelled in Israel, gave birth to Boaz, and is in the genealogy of Jesus.
Joshua 7:7-12
7 And Joshua said, “Alas, Lord God, why have You brought this people over the Jordan at all—to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us?
Although Joshua was dwelling in His promise, he became discouraged. He had to fight to guard it and see it grow. He had a weak moment and wanted to give up. He didn’t understand why his warfare wasn’t working.
10 So the Lord said to Joshua: “Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face? 11 Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff. 12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they have become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you.
Sometimes the people we have fighting with us, doesn’t have the same spirit of obedience. When God gives us instruction, we must follow them. We have to pay attention to those around us who might be filled with pride and greed. They could be keeping us from winning the next battle. Sometimes the things that we covet from our past will keep us from our promise. If God is telling us to let go of something and we refuse, then our promise will be held up!
Joshua 11:16,23
16 Thus Joshua took all this land: the mountain country, all the South, all the land of Goshen, the lowland, and the Jordan plain[a]—the mountains of Israel and its lowlands,
23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had said to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. Then the land rested from war.
Even after all of that, there was more war that had to take place to receive the rest of the inheritance land. God told Joshua that he was getting too old. The land was to be divided amongst the tribes. Some promises are not for us but for our next generation.
Joshua 14:7-12
7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart.
, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. 11 As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. 12 Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.”
Some promises God will give us supernatural strength to receive. It doesn’t matter how long you have waited, or how old you are. If God has given you an assignment, He will give you supernatural strength to complete it. Don’t give up before it is your time. Keep faith and keep pressing into obedience regardless of how it looks or what others are saying.
The important thing is to listen to Gods voice and obey His instructions. We can’t worry about what others say. We can’t give up on the promise because of the warfare that needs to take place. We have to fight for our inheritance. God will give us our enemies while we obey his instructions and don’t intermingle with things that HE has forbidden. If He has promised it then it is ours!
The Promise Granted Through Faith
13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect,
We are heirs of Abraham through faith. We are heirs of the world, it belongs to us. There is a process to our promise. I haven’t even reached the tip of what God promised me when I first got saved. He has answered many promises on the journey, but to get to the end result I have to stay in the fight.
I encourage you to be strong and courageous. Remember our battle isn’t against flesh and blood. We fight our enemies with the Word, prayer, obedience, worship, repentance, thankfulness, joy, love, and all the fruits of the spirit. We must keep our thoughts on Him so the enemy can’t entertain our imagination.
We are at the tip of a new prophetic season! I can’t wait to reveal what God has been showing me. While I have been in a season of promises, I have been on my face wondering why God brought me here because the war has been difficult! It’s about to shift. God says “Get Up”!
Father, we thank You that You are with us wherever we go. Forgive us for not always being strong and courageous. Forgive us for not realizing that there are enemies in our camp. Forgive us for holding on to things that You told us to let go of. We get up now and proclaim our promise. We stand in obedience and by faith move forward to receive everything that You have shown us. Help us end this season well and transition boldly and smoothly into the new. We don’t care who stands with us as long as you are there. We give You praise and glory for bringing us this far and for the new supernatural strength that we are about to receive. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
