James 1:22-25 (NKJV)
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
We are all made in God’s image. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). So if the Word is God and we are made in His image, than when we read the Word, we should see ourselves like a reflection in the mirror. Often times, our souls are so sick, that we forget to look at ourselves because of the condition that we are in and how it makes us feel. We roll over to go to church (like going to the bathroom because we feel we have to) then go right back to bed in our sick condition. Laying in our sick condition will block the blessings that God wants to release to us. We have to look into the Word and see ourselves how God has created us and not forget what we are supposed to look like. As we start to do this, it will cause us to feel better. We can get up and wash ourselves (taking our long, warm shower) with the water of the Word (Psalms 119:9. Ephesians 5:26). This will make us feel better causing us to have a desire for more. We can then renew our minds and be transformed (Romans12:2) like a new fresh hairstyle out of the shop. We don’t want to stop there. We still need a new wardrobe. We have to put on the full armor of God to make us strong (Ephesians 6:10-18). We clothe ourselves with truth, righteousness, salvation, faith, the Word, the gospel of peace, and prayer. At this point we just need to get our hands and feet done. Our feet become beautiful when we bring the good news of the Gospel (Isaiah 52:7) We may stand before God and receive His blessing when our hands are clean and our hearts are pure (Psalms 24:3-5). Now we are supermodels ready to walk the runway of our purpose. Not just hearing the Word of God but doing it also. We are feeling good and looking good. When we do this spiritually, it reflects also naturally. Our beauty comes from the inside out. We can look at the bible and see ourselves. Others can look upon us and see Jesus because we are Christ like. Our identity is in the Word and we can look at it and know who we are without forgetting. Let’s all be supermodels for Jesus!
Father, we thank you for the mirror of Your Word. Forgive us for looking at it and forgetting what we look like. Help us see ourselves in Your image. Make us supermodels for Christ, ready to do Your work boldly and confident in who we are because we are wearing Your Word. We don’t just want to look good, but also feel good from the inside out. We want to be complete and whole reflecting Your goodness for all to see. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
