We Are Super Heroes!

My 4 year old son is already a superhero fanatic. He knows most of the heroes and their secret identity names. He knows what their powers and weaknesses are and what weapon that they carry. It amazes me how much information that he retains and his thought process to match. He has many of the different costumes and will not only put them on to be the superhero, but also put clothes over the costume to be their “normal” identity. He knows that the heroes aren’t real. We teach him that Jesus is the real superhero and that since Jesus lives in him that one day he can help change the world.

Acts 17:6 (NKJV)
6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.

The people described Jesus’ disciples as those who changed the world!

One day before bed, my son asked a very profound question. He asked “What does God’s power look like?” While I was deeply thinking about how to answer in a way that he could understand, my husband quickly said “the blood of Jesus on a cross”. Wow, how simple, powerful, and true.

1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV)
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Most superheroes carry some kind of tool that carries power. Thor has his hammer, captain America has his shield, Iron Man and Batman have their suit and so on. Superman is one of the unique heroes in that his powers come from within. It’s in his DNA. He was born with his powers and only needed to learn how to use them.

We are just like Superman! God’s DNA flows through us. We are heirs of Christ and all of His power flows through us. The cross that shed His blood carries everything we need to face our enemies once we believe that Jesus lived, died, and rose from the grave for the forgiveness of our sins. By His Spirit, we can heal, deliver, rebuke our enemies, tread on serpents and scorpions, handle snakes and drink poison. We can have victory in every situation once we realize the full power of the cross inside of us.

Luke 10:19 (NKJV)

19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Mark 16:18 (NKJV)

18 they[a] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Acts 6:8 (NKJV)
8 And Stephen, full of faith[a] and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.

My son went on to talk about how the bad guys always think they have power, but they really don’t. They only think they have power, but it is a lie. The devil thinks he can win. He can only do this if we let him in to place fear, condemnation, shame, doubt, guilt, unworthiness, etc. into our minds. Our thoughts must be renewed and in alignment with what God says about us in His Word.

2 Corinthians 13:3-6 (NKJV)

3 since you seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, who is not weak toward you, but mighty in you. 4 For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.
5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified. 6 But I trust that you will know that we are not disqualified.

The only way Superman ever loses is if the enemy uses kryptonite against him. In our case kryptonite is sin. Sin weakens us and allows the devil to hurt us in ways that he wouldn’t be able to if we were in alignment with the Word. This is why it is so important to guard our deliverance and resist temptation. We have to give all of our weaknesses to God and turn away from temptation in order to defeat the devil.

Luke 9:23 (NKJV)
23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily,[a] and follow Me.

James 4:7 (NKJV)
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

We need to pick up our cross daily. This represents our weaknesses and God’s power. This is how we guard our deliverance, resisting sin so the devil can’t win victory in our lives. We must crucify our flesh daily and feed our spirit with the Word of God.

Romans 6:6 (NKJV)
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

We have complete freedom, power, and victory as believers.  It is time to rise up and be the heroes of faith that we are. The Kingdom of God is power. We must instill this in our children and stir up their faith to realize their true identity. God has made us to change the world and bring heaven to earth. We are living in times where the world is crying out for justice and light. Only Jesus in us has the solution. God will move through us and our children to work miracles, signs, and wonders. He’s waiting on us to take up our cross and submit to Him. He’s waiting for us to believe in the full power of the cross. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. God is moving, speaking, and manifesting. The supernatural power of God flows through us by the blood stained cross of Jesus. We are super heroes!

1 Corinthians 4:20 (NKJV)
20 For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.

Father, we thank You for the power of the cross and the blood of Jesus. Forgive us for turning our power over to the enemy through sin and unbelief. We fully submit ourselves to You and resist temptation. Reveal to us our true identity and show us how to demonstrate the power of Your Kingdom. Help us impart the truth of Your Word into our children so they may become a fearless, victorious, faithful, generation that moves by Your power. We bind up the enemy that has stolen the identities of Your people. We loose healing, restoration, and deliverance to Your people. We loose revelation of the fullness of the cross of Jesus. Make us heroes of faith that defeat the enemy of this world so that all will see Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!

I wanted to have a garden of my own, but I never really got into it. Sure, I might seem a little lazy to you, but that is not it. I never really got into gardening because I did not have the money for it. Tools require a lot of money, so I could never really afford to try it. It is sad that this is the state of my life, but that is just part of who I am.

Mothering six children is not an easy task, but by God's grace it's one of my greatest assignments. I have a lot of experience at making mistakes and letting God correct me. I pray that you can learn from my trials and grow into the parent that God created you to be.
