Being a mother is a selfless, sometimes unappreciated, exhausting, never ending job. This is not to downplay a dad’s role, just talking from a mommy’s perspective. Every so often, in the midst of the busyness of everyone’s schedule things start to get a little off. My oldest girls are quickly approaching young adulthood and the little ones mimic everything that they do. At times when they are full of themselves and become disrespectful, my heart cries wondering what I’m doing wrong. The house seems to be in complete turmoil. Sitting in my own frustration thinking that I’m going to go on strike until they meet my demands, I begin to think about Jesus. What if Jesus went on strike? We would all be in big trouble! I’m sure that He often looks down on me and just shakes His head wondering when am I going to catch the revelation of what he is doing in that moment. I’m sure He is not happy with everything that comes out of my mouth and is sometimes disappointed with my decisions. Regardless of how I’m acting or what I am doing, Jesus never gives up on me. He gently corrects me, makes a way for my deliverance, picks me up and puts me back on track. Jesus was denied, mocked, beat, bruised, disrespected, spit on, betrayed and more unto death. That didn’t stop Him from going to the cross for us. Even if we disobey Him today, it wouldn’t stop His love for us. He wants the best for us and will never leave us, and it hurts Him to see us suffer from our own bad decisions, just as it hurts us to watch our own children suffer. We can’t save them from all the mistakes in life. We can only establish the foundation with the Word of God, give them tools to help them be successful, pray for them continuously, and give them unconditional love. The rest is up to them. We ultimately do not have a choice in their decisions. Their lives are in God’s hands and their decisions are between them and Jesus. We set the rules and boundaries in our homes. We come up with the consequences and they decide whether they are going to suffer them or not. We can’t go on strike and we can’t give up on them. Mommies, you are more appreciated than you know. When they are old enough to realize all of the sacrifices that you made in order for them to succeed they will honor you. When they have their own children they will understand your disappointments and frustrations. They will come back and ask for your forgiveness; just as I did with my mother (I was horrible). They will rise up and call you blessed. Be encouraged. Do your best. Keep Jesus in every situation and it will all work out for your good!
Galatians 6:9
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we don’t lose heart.
Father, we thank You for Your unconditional love. We thank You that You never leave us nor forsake us. We thank You that You never give up on us. Forgive us for wanting to give up on our children and for wanting to go on strike. We know that Your grace is sufficient and today we ask for more grace and wisdom in every situation that we face. Keep us looking at the cross so we remember what unconditional love looks like. We will not grow weak or give up because we know that in Your timing that we will see the fruit of our labor. Our children belong to You and we trust You with them. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
