Watching the news and seeing the replay of the little toddler boy being dragged around by a gorilla over and over again has made my heart sick as a mother of five. The mother has suffered much scrutiny as to how she let her child fall into the habitat in the first place. The thought of that being my child and wondering how I would have responded has made me sick.
When you have multiple children it is very difficult to watch them every single moment. It only takes a split second for an accident to happen. If your attention is on another child's need, it is easy for the other to wander. This is why I rarely go to these types of places without my husband or another adult friend to help. Even with the most well behaved children, curiosity can lead them into danger! Thank You Jesus that this child didn't lose his life!
Haven’t all of our children suffered accidents because we took our eyes off of them for a split second? Does everybody else’s child always obey the first time? My children have all had their fair share of bumps and bruises resulting from not following the rules. This is where I enforce that the rules are to keep us safe! This is the very reason God gives us rules to follow, because He loves us and wants to protect us. Do You always follow God’s rules? If not, I’m sure that you have learned some life lessons as well that have cause you some trouble. Thank God for His grace and that His mercies are new every morning!
We can’t assume that this woman is a bad parent. I can’t believe the lack of compassion that people have shown for this child and his mother. It saddens me that we live in a world that places the life of animals above the life of humans. The very same people who are animal activists and vegetarians are pro-choice and support abortion.
It’s unfortunate that the beautiful silverback gorilla had to lose its life, but how much more tragic would it have been for the little boy to lose his life? That child was made in God’s image and has destiny and purpose created on the inside of him. The gorilla would have sat in the zoo for the rest of his life in captivity, out of God’s design for the rest of his life strictly to entertain the selfish desires of man.
It is time to stop jumping on the bandwagon of judging and shaming each other’s parenting skills and start helping those who are in need. What happened to “it takes a village to raise a child”? You mean to tell me that with all of those other people in that video, nobody else saw the little boy climbing into danger? Are those people to blame as well? I thank God that the boy is okay and that his mother doesn’t have to live with the devastation of watching her son fall to his death. The blood of Jesus!
Genesis 1:26-30 (NKJV)
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all[a] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.
We have dominion! We were place here on this earth to rule over every other living thing on this earth. It is part of our inheritance as children of God. I’m sure if that was your child down there and you had a gun, you would have shot the gorilla yourself (I would have)! Every human life is valuable and should not be placed lower than the beasts of this earth. We were made just a little lower than the angels.
Psalm 8:4-6 (NKJV)
4 What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels,[a]
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
All things are under our feet. As believers we have the power and authority of Jesus. We should also display His character. Let’s bring compassion back into the kingdom and the “mothers” back into the village. We need each other to make an impact on the next generation!
Father, we thank You for Your saving grace and mercy. Forgive us for shaming and judging instead of helping and imparting. Replace every place in our hearts that have judgement for others with Your compassion that leads them to You and not away from You. We want to be pillars in a village that represents Your kingdom. Show us how to reach and impact families to bring them into alignment with Your Word. We want to be a village that represents the Kingdom of God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
