During one long needed naptime, I made the dreadful mistake of falling asleep while breastfeeding the baby. My little ones are extremely busy and definitely keep me on my toes. My two year old daughter wakes up before everyone and decides to go into the front and take the stuff out of my breast pump bag. I hear the soft sound of bags moving and I pop up. She has taken all the milk bags and wrote on them with the black sharpie marker that was in the bag, not to mention on herself and clothes. She took the nipple cream and had it smeared all over her face. Thank God the marker didn’t make it to the walls or furniture and the cream into her eyes! So as I began to scold and correct her for going into Mommy’s stuff that she knew she wasn’t allowed to touch, she proceeded to take breast pads from underneath her shirt that were placed in the exact right spot. This is also my baby that will lift up her shirt to breastfeed her baby doll. At this point I realized, she was just trying to be like me. Our children are a reflection of us at this young age. They are so impressionable. She wants to do what she sees Mommy do. So it made me think. What else am I doing that she is watching? The answer is everything! Am I setting a good example in front of her? Am I always being the person that I want her to be? Of course I know that I am human and that I will make mistakes. How am I responding to those mistakes in front of her? Am I being humble and repenting when wrong? Am I living out the word?
1 Thessalonians 2-12
10 You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe; 11 as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged[b] every one of you, as a father does his own children, 12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
Colossians 1:10
that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
God has called us to be parents and raise our children as the next generation of leaders, laborers, and servants of Christ. Are we living devoutly, justly, and blamelessly? Are we exhorting, comforting and charging our children into their purpose?
Matthew 12:33
[ A Tree Known by Its Fruit ] “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.
We are the trees and our children are our fruit. What kind of fruit are we producing? I want to be a good tree that produces good fruit!
Father, we thank you that you have trusted us with the precious children you have given us. Forgive us for not always living out the word. Help us seek you in all things that we might live worthy of our call to produce good fruit. Let us be trees planted by living waters, drawing from the water of the word continuously. Be our strength when we are weak. Convict us of our behavior that is making a negative impact on our children. Let our lives give you glory. Help us be devout, just, and blameless before you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
