Being responsible for someone else’s well being, can be difficult to say the least. Mommies from every background judge themselves critically to satisfy what the world views of what mommies should be. If we stay at home, we are judged for not bringing any financial increase to our homes. If we work, we are judged for not spending enough time with our kids. The truth is, according to the world’s standard, there is never enough of anything. There is no satisfaction in the world. It will always have us chasing more!
We have been conditioned to want to look like success in the eyes of man, but man’s version of success will lead us on a path of guilt, condemnation, and brokenness. We have all been called to something different and our success can only be measured by God.
Psalm 127:3 (NKJV)
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
We must first understand that our children are a reward. God has blessed us with an heir to continue the legacy of our name because our name will make His name great. God is generational and wants us to pass on the blessing. He has entrusted to us His purpose that lies in another human being. He expects us to lead them in whatever way that He instructs; of course in His Word, but also according to their call. They might need to be impacted by the daycare provider that watches them while you are hard at work. They may need to stay at home in the early years to be grounded in the foundation that you establish before being exposed to outside influence. God has a plan for us all and will work through every situation.
Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV)
22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich,
And He adds no sorrow with it.
If our children are our blessing then we shouldn’t feel condemnation for the way that we are raising them as long as we are doing it according to God’s will. We shouldn’t get upset about not being able to put our little princess in dance classes because the neighbor kid is doing so. We can’t be condemned for not having our little ninja in karate because all of His friends are. God will always make a way for His will. If the Lord desires those things to build up their gifts then He will provide a way to make it work.
Galatians 1:10 (NKJV)
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
We must rest in knowing that as long as we are seeking to raise our children in a way that pleases God instead of man, He will always instruct us in how. He will provide resources and opportunities to mold and shape them into who He has created them to be.
1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NKJV)
4 But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.
God has given us His Word to be engrafted in our hearts and establish us in His love. What we do and say should always reflect a heart posture of wanting to please Him. If our heart is longing for something because we believe it will please God then it will be given. If our heart wants something to feel important or look successful in front of man, we will always be disappointed.
Colossians 3:23 (NKJV)
23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
So if you stay at home, then do it for the Lord. If you go to a job, do it for the Lord. Make no apologies and don’t let people condemn you. Being a parent is already hard enough without adding the stress of what other people think. No explanation required. Be the best you can be and let the Holy Spirit guide you. If you are unhappy then ask God to show you why. Maybe there are some things that you are currently doing because people thought it was a good idea. Ask God to calibrate your life to His plan. Repent and move forward in faith because this pleases the Lord.
Proverbs 16:7 (NKJV)
7 When a man’s ways please the Lord,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
When we are in alignment with God’s plan He will even make our enemies be at peace with us. The naysayers will have to shut up! Our lives will show the glory of God and nothing they say can steal our peace.
The world is constantly changing and its standards are always being redefined, but God’s Word never changes. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever more. Please God and you will never have to question what anyone else thinks. His plans are great and are sure to prosper you!
Father, we thank You for the season that we are in with our children. Forgive us for feeling condemned, ashamed, and guilty for not doing enough for our children. We know that these thoughts come from the devil. Convict us of areas where we have tried to please man instead of You. We want to be satisfied by pleasing You. Show us how to do everything like we are doing it for You. Help us make decisions for our children based on the purpose that You have placed inside of them. Our children are a blessing that makes us rich. Thank You for trusting us with their purpose. Open up doors, resources, and opportunities to align them to the plans that You have for their lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
